Down With Covers and Flaps on Ports!

"School guidance counselors always tell their students ”don’t hide your light under a bushel.” Let’s put them in touch with LG, HP, Samsung and all the other interface-ashamed OEMs who bury their ports under giant rubber doors or deliberately mislabel them for “aesthetic reasons.” The more plugs your product supports, the more freedom your users have to attach other devices and make the most of them. So why on earth would you seal the connectors behind a wall like the victim in an Edgar Allen Poe story?"
Pretty funny rant! Living in the U.S. Southwest with constant blowing sand and wind, a nice coating of dust gets on (and often in) everything, computers included, whether the windows are open or tightly closed. So I'll take covered ports, thank you! However, I can see his point, when manufacturers cover some ports, and not others. And, why not keep USB 3.0 ports blue? Because it apparently clashes with some of the (IMHO bizarre) color combinations that manufacturers are using for their systems. As the author says,"... be proud of your ports!"
