DecalGirl and GelaSkins: Different Levels of iPad Protection

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Laptop Thoughts Talk" @ 08:00 AM

Remember that awesome skin above that I posted about a month or so ago? Well, I decided to swap the iPad 2 32 GB for a 64 GB model - my local Apple Store made it incredibly easy for me, allowing me to keep the 32 GB iPad until the 64 GB models came back into stock (which was an extra two weeks). Even though Apple email support can sometimes be downright creepy, I've had mostly good experiences inside the Apple store. Back to the skin: I removed the Wolverine skin (which came from GelaSkins) and left it for a few hours, hoping it would restore some of it's original form.

When I tried to re-apply it though, the front was too distorted to fit properly. The back went on OK, but it lost adhesion around the edges and generally looked rather poor. So it was time for a new skin. I'd had my eye on a skin from DecalGirl called Mount Doom, and decided I'd order it for my 64 GB iPad. I didn't look close enough at the sample image though, because when it arrived and I put it on, I was surprised to see how much of the iPad was left exposed.

The preview image clearly showed this, so I'm not faulting DecalGirl here - but it does make me think that when I'm shopping for a new skin for my iPad 2, I'm going to switch back to GelaSkins because I want the entire back to be protected, not just most of it.

Do you have a skin on your tablet, laptop, or phone? Who do you buy from, and why?
